The regulation applies to split-system air conditioning systems and heat pumps containing fluorinated refrigerants . Systems using natural refrigerants are not affected . Split systems consist of separate indoor and outdoor units that must be connected during installation. Due to the F-gases (fluorinated greenhouse gases) they contain, proper handling is required by law.
Closed Monoblock systems, such as many mobile air conditioners or heat pumps with factory-sealed refrigerant circuits, are not affected . These can be installed and commissioned by the end customer themselves, as no intervention is required in the refrigerant system.
